There is no doubt that Rekha is feminine grace and sensuality personified. But her Bollywood career goes beyond that. She tried to step out of that image and play some memorable characters in notable films
Rekha, one of the most beautiful and finest actresses of Bollywood is turning 57 today, 10 October, 2011.
Rekha is a National Award winning Indian actress known for films like Umrao Jaan and Khubsoorat.
Born in 1954, in Chennai, India, Bhanurekha Ganesan (later known simply as “Rekha”) is the daughter of renowned Tamil actor Gemini Ganesan and the Telugu actress Pushpavalli. Her father enjoyed phenomenal success and Rekha was to follow in his footsteps.
Having acted in more than 150 films, she made her presence felt with her versatility and different avatars in films like Do Anjaane (1976), Ghar (1978), Muqaddar Ka Sikander (1978), Khubsoorat (1980), Silsila (1981), Baseraa (1981), Utsav (1984), Khoon Bhari Maang (1988), Ijaazat (1988), Kama Sutra (1996) and Zubeidaa (2001) to name a few On being ‘mysetrious’ Rekha: “The so-called mysterious image of Rekha is outside my periphery and is somebody else’s perception and interpretation. I’ve always maintained that I am just a simple, spontaneous, and fun-loving person. No offense to the word mystery and I don’t mean to belittle it, but I’d rather be known as Rekha – The Woman, than Rekha – The mystery. I am a person who lives life by my own terms, makes my own rules and also dares to endure the consequences, if any. And may I add, I go out and have a blast and paint the town multi-coloured too.”
