Desi Boyz review

For those who graduated or got fired in the year 2009, "Desi Boyz" is a gentle reminder of the limited fishes available in the kitchen for frying. The paltry substitutes didn't turn an investment banker or a prospective one into an escort - not anyone I know of. I quizzed one of my banker friends last night about this discretionary choice of career should the markets go down once again and the conversation got lost in translation. 

David, Bollywood’s king of comedy who has hits like Aankhen (1993), Coolie No. 1 (1995), Judwaa (1997), Biwi No.1 (1999) and Partner (2007) to his credit, also insists that he wasn’t creatively involved with Desi Boyz, and that the film has solely Rohit’s stamp on it: “I only gave a few suggestions during dining table discussions, but I never dropped in on his sets.”

Neither is watching Rohit Dhawan’s Desi Boyz, a film that paints so ridiculously rosy a picture of the gigolo life that it plays like a recruitment film sponsored by pimps.

Another strand of the screechplay goes gaga over Nick going goo-goo over a desi ghee gal (Deepika Padukone). He has given her a diamond ring (not Tiffany’s), and is moritifed to share the news that he’s jobless since. Why, why? Because she’s the sort who’ll huff that if anyone can’t find bread, “Let them eat chicken roll.” Honestly. For some romantic counterbalancing, Jerry reignites his ardour for Tanyaji (Chitrangada Singh), at the Trinity library. She teaches him economics, strip poker and salsa, while he gapes on inertly as if he were made of balsa.

A Tamil film ‘Mayakkam Enna’ release this week in 105 UFO digital theatres. Telugu film ‘Sri Rama Rajyam’, the remake of the legendary Telugu star N. T.
