Former Karnataka Chief Minister Sarekoppa Bangarappa passes away
Former Karnataka Chief Minister Sarekoppa Bangarappa died early this morning at a private hospital
following a brief illness, family sources said here.
The septuagenarian, who was suffering from kidney related problems and a diabetic, was undergoing
treatment since December 7. He breathed his last at about 00:45 am, sources said.
Born on October 26, 1932, Bangarappa, who had tested his political fortunes in the Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP) after a long stint in Congress, had recently joined the H D Devegowda-led Janata Dal
(Secular). The three time Lok Sabha member represented Shimoga constituency and has been a legislator
several times.
A formidable name in the Karnataka political arena, Bangarappa was a backward community leader
highlighting the issues of the minorities in the state. With an impressive career, he was currently
a JD(S) member. He represented Shimoga constituency in the 14th Lok Sabha.
