Puss in Boots: Movie Review

Just when you were about to give up on 3-D—and the inflated price of admission to watch it on a theater
screen—along comes a film that’s worth the money. In fact, it isn’t the story that makes Puss in Boots
stand out, but the imaginative staging, especially in 3-D.

As I’m sure most of you remember the character Puss in Boots made his first appearance in Shrek 2 (2004)
as a secondary character, and for me he was the highlight of a franchise that progressively declined and
sullied the name of the instant classic Shrek (2001). So Dreamworks Animation have decided to give him an
origin story to give this great permutation of the Puss in Boots character the chance to survive on his own.

Puss in Boots is undoubtedly one of the most entertaining animation films of the year. It is funny,
touching and most importantly highly engaging. Puss in Boots can be called a Bollywood film in the
sense, it has pretty much everything packed in one: action, adventure, fantasy, romance, drama which
keeps you on the edge of your seats. Its towards the end of the movie that you realize you have a wide
smile plastered on your face since the beginning, thanks to the endearing puss and his seductive femme
fatale kitty softpaws.

But Banderas’ forceful performance is consistently amusing, and the film is a visual treat from start
to finish. So if Puss in Boots isn’t a great animated feature, it’s still pretty good...and that’s no
small accomplishment.
