Underworld Awakening’ Review
Underworld 4 looks and feels like an extended TV episode, rather than a big-budget feature film.
This is mainly due to the amateurish direction of Swedish duo Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein, whose
primary experience is in directing TV, as it so happens. The film is nothing more than a string
of action sequences and cheap set-pieces, often shot at wide angles that reveal the elementary
(and by now, routine) fight choreography. Cheap CGI effects make the blood spatter, superhuman
feats and supernatural creatures look no better than something you might see on an episode of
Supernatural or True Blood.
Underworld: Awakening is directed by Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein and stars Kate Beckinsale,
Stephen Rea, Michael Ealy, Theo James, India Eisley and Charles Dance.
Kate Beckinssle is the new wonder woman. She thinks about her hybrid lover even while dodging the
bullets. Start counting the number of people rather living beings and you will learn the counting
till thousand at least. Killing, killing, and more killing. Spare me.
Watch the film if you've been a fan of the franchise, but be prepared for a lot of ho-hum moments
between the actions sequences. And if slashing, biting and stabbing floats your boat, you might
just end up enjoying this one. Sadly, my boat is still struggling to stay afloat.
