The online Microsoft Store in India was hacked – allegedly by a group of Chinese hackers. The big story, though, isn’t that the site was hacked, or that customer data was compromised and exposed by the attackers, but that the Microsoft Store was storing the data in clear text and didn’t take basic steps to protect it in the first place.
While it is troublesome that hackers were able to breach security at a website owned by one of the biggest IT companies in the world, it is more alarming that user details - login ids and passwords - were reportedly stored in plain text file, without any encryption.

In a later update to the report, it was learnt that the database of the Microsoft Store India had been exploited and the passwords were saved in plain text. Shortly after the website was compromised, the site was taken offline, indicating that Microsoft had seized control of their online store once more.
As per source report, Evil Shadow named hacker group had attempted to deface the web site, posting an image of a V for Vendetta mask and the message: “Unsafe system will be baptized.”
They also left a message and posted, “We are not famous; we know that there are other experts among us, people who are even better.”
